MOUNTAIN HIGH'S CHILDREN'S ACADEMY UNVEILS NEW HOSPITALITY HUT

Wrightwood, CA– September 24, 2007: Skiing and snowboarding are terrific activities that promote family togetherness and a healthy lifestyle. Getting children involved early is the best way to create lifelong participants, and more students than ever are attending Mountain High’s Children’s Academy. To accommodate the growth, Mountain High has added a new hospitality center which will serve as a welcome arena for incoming parents. The existing facility has been remodeled as well, and the resort boasts all new rental equipment for both skiers and snowboarders.

Says Cindy Shippy, Mountain High’s Winter Sports School Director, “I am truly excited about the new Hospitality Hut! It gives us a better opportunity to interface with our guests and, most importantly, the parents of our Children’s Academy kids. The Hut also creates a fun and educational experience for all!

As guests make their way to the Winter Sports School, they will be greeted by a new hospitality center with both indoor and outdoor seating, places to store equipment, and a hydration station. This facility will not only serve as a gathering place for program participants, but it will also be an environmental education center for young minds. The Angeles National Forest is filled with interesting inhabitants, and, while students break for lunch, they will learn about plant and animal life indigenous to the region. Parents can watch their children from the center or head up to the outdoor deck of the Bullwheel Bar & Grill where they can also get a warm drink and a bite to eat. Located directly beneath the Bullwheel Bar & Grill is the original children’s facility which has been remodeled to accommodate more students and instructors. Visitors will discover new lockers, a larger eating area, and a modernized rental shop filled with $150,000 worth of brand new equipment from Rossignol and Burton. This year the Children’s Academy offers ski boots as small as size 7, snowboard boots down to size 1, and skis and boards as short as 80 centimeters.

In the past group ski lessons have begun at age four and snowboard lessons at age seven. This was because of the extra coordination and weight needed to maneuver a snowboard. But as the popularity of snowboarding has grown, so has the demand for lessons for younger children, so Mountain High has lowered its minimum age to four and developed special programs to accommodate them. Classes will be smaller, there will be more individual attention, and a special teaching staff has been assigned. As always, Private Lessons are available for students ages three and under including family-oriented lessons that work with both the parents and the child.
