Mountain High officially closed yesterday, April 16th, putting an end to one of its longest seasons on record spanning 160 days and six different months. The perception may be one of a lackluster winter with little to no snow but the reality is far different.
Mountain High celebrated its 4th earliest opening on November 5th, 2011. The resort had great snowmaking and good natural snow early on which allowed them to open the majority of their terrain long before mid-December. The Christmas Holiday was strong and for the better part of the winter the mountain had very consistent conditions. Several small storms raised their head peak season but things really took off in mid-March when spring storms began to blanket Mountain High with fresh snow. Four feet of fresh powder fell between March 15th and April 15th and just under 10,000 guests enjoyed the final weekend making it one of Mountain High’s best April closings ever.
Besides the snow, Mountain High played host to several major events this year including the Nike Chosen event, Snowboarder Magazine’s SuperPass, the Gatorade Free Flow Tour, and the $20,000 Cholula Triple Air. The mountain has also released the teaser for its new feature-length film, LOS ANGELES, which premiers this fall http://snowboarding.transworld.net/1000176216/videos/mountain-highs-los-angeles-teaser/
The La Nina weather pattern didn’t necessarily favor California this season but forecasters are calling for the return of El Nino next winter. During the last El Nino season, Mountain High recorded nearly 300 inches of fresh snow which is more than 150 inches above normal. With the impending snowfall, guests with season passes will benefit the most and Mountain High’s annual season pass sale returns September 1st with savings up to 50% off.
Overall Mountain High fared well despite the challenging season and more than $1 Million in capital improvements have already been slated for next winter. For more information or to schedule an interview, please call John McColly, VP Of Sales And Marketing, at 760-316-7803 or john@mthigh.com.
