Dozens of Santas hit the slopes at Mountain High yesterday in the name of charity. Skiers and snowboarders dressed in full Santa Claus costumes to join in Santa Day, a fundraiser for Protect Our Winters (POW).
“We are so happy to see our local SoCal skiers and snowboarders get into the Christmas spirit,” said Protect Our Winters Executive Director Chris Steinkamp. “Events like Santa Day at Mountain High help to raise funds and awareness about the future of the snow sports industry as we deal with climate change.”
Participants made at least a $20 minimum donation to POW and received a complimentary lift ticket for the day in return. Skiers and snowboarders were required to wear a complete Santa suit with hat, beard, coat, belt and pants. More than $500 was raised for POW as a result of yesterday’s efforts.
“We created Santa Day as a way to raise awareness and funds for Protect Our Winters, a cause that’s deeply personal to all of us at Mountain High,” said Mountain High Chief Marketing Officer John McColly. “We had a lot of fun during this first annual fundraiser and can’t wait to ramp it up even more in the years ahead.”
Protect Our Winters seeks to engage and mobilize the snow sports community to lead the fight against climate change through educational initiatives, advocacy and community-based activism.
