Groundbreaking for Mountain High’s new Mountain Bike Park took place today under sunny skies atop its West Resort. It was an electric day as the Wrightwood resort announced plans to add Mountain Biking to its list of summer activities. Mountain High currently offers camping, hiking, archery, disc golf, water sports at Jackson Lake, weekly entertainment, and more.
The event was attended by Mountain High’s Management Team, Matthew Bokach, Monument Manager for the Angeles National Forest, other regional dignities, local media, and members of the Pacific Crest Composite Mountain Bike Team.
Today marks the end of a 3-year campaign to bring Mountain Biking to Wrightwood and the beginning of a new era in the region’s summer recreation. Mountain High expects to physically begin building trails next week with hopes to have several trails open by late Summer 2024.
Construction will take place in 3 phases. Phase I which is expected to be completed this summer and consists of 6 downhill trails and 1 uphill access route totaling approximately 7 miles. Of the 6 downhill trails, 4 are designed to be easier, 1 will be more difficult and 1 will be most difficult.
Beginner, 1 is Intermediate, and 1 is Advanced.
The Phase I trail network will be served by the Blue Ridge Express chairlift at Mountain High’s West Resort. See the attached map for details. Color Code
- Green Circle = Easier
- Blue Square = More Difficult
- Black Diamond = Ad
- Double-Black Diamond = Extremely Difficult
- Red = Uphill
In addition to downhill trails, Mountain High is planning to implement a Skills Park where guests can practice their technique on small, stationary features such as:
- Roller to a small jump
- Wooden banks
- Wooden platforms to small drops
These training mechanisms are designed to help new participants get comfortable with their equipment before hitting the mountain. Mountain High also offers rentals, retail wear, and delicious food & beverage.
Phase 2 will take place during the Spring of 2025 and consist of 5 more trails equating to roughly 6 more miles of terrain at its West Resort, primarily more difficult to most difficult.
Phase 3 is scheduled to take place Spring of 2026 and consist of another 2 miles of more difficult to advanced trails, also at its West Resort.
